I design & build gardens and this blog is about all things landscape and garden that can influence garden making. My bias is toward the clean, straight forward, and spare but I can be seduced as much as anyone by the sensuality of nature. However, what I post will be about more than the pretty, precious, and nostalgic. We'll see how well I do. And "Carex"? It's a sedge frequently used in planting native gardens. I like it very much.

A New Zealand Garden by Sarah Eberle Landscape Design. Materials used included scoria rocks, concrete (both poured and shot), and mosaic.
A Place to Gather: Ben Gurion Square, the entrance to Ben Gurion University in Beer Sheva, Israel. Designed by Chyutin Architects. Strips of concrete alternate with concrete benches and vegetation (grass, Equisetophyta, and seasonal plants changed 3 times a year). Have you noticed that strips of whatever and Equisetum are now the darlings of Landscape Architects? (Think High Line.) Did Andrea Cochran start it all in her residential gardens? I love the look. Just wondering…
